Sometimes a tree needs to come down. Whether it's dead, diseased, dangerous, causing structural damage, or simply in the wrong place, our team can remove it safely and efficiently.

We've felled thousands of trees across Hertfordshire and North London over the past 20 years. From small garden trees to large mature specimens overhanging period properties, we have the equipment, training, and experience to handle any tree felling job. Where a tree is inside a conservation area or carries a Tree Preservation Order — common in parts of St Albans and the Chiltern villages — we handle the council paperwork before any cutting begins.

How We Fell Trees

Not every tree can simply be cut at the base and dropped. In residential gardens, there are usually buildings, fences, sheds, and neighbouring properties to consider. We use two main approaches:

Straight Felling

Where there's enough space for the tree to fall safely, we use directional felling techniques to bring the tree down in one piece. This is the fastest and most cost-effective method, but requires a clear drop zone at least 1.5 times the height of the tree.

Sectional Dismantling

When space is limited — which is the case in most domestic gardens — we take the tree down in sections. A climber ascends the tree and removes branches and trunk sections piece by piece, lowering them on ropes to a ground crew. This method is slower but allows us to work safely in the tightest spaces, right next to buildings and boundaries.

• TPO and conservation area checks — we verify whether your tree is protected before any work begins
• Full waste removal — all timber, branchwood, and debris is cleared from site on the same day
• Stump treatment — we cut the stump as low as possible and can follow up with full stump grinding to clear the ground for turf, planting, or paving
• Site cleanup — we leave your garden tidy, raking up sawdust and debris

Where commercial sites or larger developments need multiple trees removed at once, we handle that through our large-scale tree removal service rather than domestic felling.

Safety and Insurance

Tree felling is inherently dangerous work that should only be carried out by qualified professionals. Our team holds NPTC/City & Guilds qualifications in chainsaw operation and tree felling, and we carry public liability insurance. We follow all HSE guidelines and carry out full risk assessments before every job.
